A synthetic analog of the pituitary hormone, ARGININE VASOPRESSIN. Its action is mediated by the VASOPRESSIN receptor V2. It has prolonged antidiuretic activity, but little pressor effects. It also modulates levels of circulating FACTOR VIII and VON WILLEBRAND FACTOR.

Desmopressin acetate (DDAVP, Mi Ning), which is 1-cysteine ??deamination and 8-L-arginine replaced by 8-D-arginine, is also called aminoarginine vasopressin. It is a structural analogue of natural arginine salt vasopressin and a derivative of vasopressin. Its antidiuretic effect is stronger and more lasting than vasopressin, but it has no vasoconstriction effect and few side effects.
