   1,4- butanediol is an important basic organic chemical raw material, which is mainly used to produce polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyurethane, γ -butyrolactone and tetrahydrofuran. 1,4- butanediol has good hygroscopicity and flexibility, and can be used as gelatin softener and water absorbent, as a treatment agent for cellophane and other unused paper, as well as to prepare N- methylpyrrolidone, N- vinylpyrrolidone and other pyrrolidone derivatives of Chemicalbook. It is also used to prepare vitamin B6, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, plasticizers, lubricants, humidifiers, flexibility, adhesives and brighteners in electroplating industry. It is also used as solvent, non-toxic antifreeze, food emulsifier, hygroscopic agent, cross-linking agent for organic synthesis, pharmaceutical and food industries, tetrahydrofuran production and polyurethane elastomer production.

Manufacturing method
1. Acetylene method: firstly, acetylene and formaldehyde react at 98kPa and 80-95℃ in the presence of Cu-Bi catalyst to prepare 1,4- butynediol. Catalyzed by skeleton nickel, the latter was hydrogenated to 1,4- butene diacid at 1.372-2.06MPa and 50-60℃, followed by further catalytic hydrogenation of Ni-Cu-Mn/Al2O3 (13.7-20.6MPa and 120-140℃) to 1,4- butanediol, and the metal ions were removed by ion exchange resin. +2. 3. Butadiene method is made by acetooxidation of 1,3- butadiene with acetic acid and oxygen to produce 1,4- diacetoxy -2- butene, which is then hydrogenated and hydrolyzed.
