Photoinitiator 2959 is a highly efficient non-yellowing UV photoinitiator used to initiate UV polymerization reactions in unsaturated prepolymer systems, especially for acrylic and unsaturated polyester resins that require low odor and water-based. The active hydroxyl groups in the photoinitiator 2959 molecule make it easy to react with unsaturated resins. It is suitable for conventional UV systems. Since the hydroxyl functional groups in its molecules improve the solubility of photoinitiator 2959 in water-based coating formulations, it is suitable for water-based UV formulations. Photoinitiator 2959 is the only FDA-certified photoinitiator that allows it to be used. It has low odor, low volatility, and low yellowing, and can be used in adhesives that are not in direct contact with food. Photoinitiator 2959 has been tested and can be used in UV-curing formulations on wood, metal, plastic, and paper surfaces. The hydroxyl functional groups in the molecules improve the solubility of photoinitiator 2959 in water-based coating formulations. Photoinitiator 2959 has lower volatility and odor than photoinitiator 1173. Importantly, the active hydroxyl groups of photoinitiator 2959 can be easily grafted onto polymer molecules, making it easier to process. Due to its unique properties, photoinitiator 2959 is particularly recommended for UV formulations that require high temperature and airflow to evaporate water before curing.
